I'm for as much direct democracy in a Federal Ireland as say Switzerland has. The reasons being that I think it would differentiate us from Britain and America, and help towards contributing, with federalism, to a binding civic culture for ourselves which, with all our differences of convictions, we need now. I'm also for it because, like decentralised government, it can help produce an entrepreneurial spirit in a people as citizens see they can actually have an effect on the world around them in contrast to a passive, apathetic spirit that say centralised decision making produces. So I think it could benefit our economy. I also think it could be an alleviation to much of the tensions in Irish society between people and would help greatly in tackling corruption in Irish society.
