A friend of mine is passionate about reviving the Gaelic script in which Irish Gaelic used to be written in and in which, say, some of the existent street signs of Ireland are still written in. I find the script beautiful and that it encapsulates in an intense way the sense of Ireland. I don't think we should ever have modernised the spelling and font of the Gaelic language. As a country to have our own font in which our language is written in, I think, is particularly distinguishing. What do others think? (I thought to post this thread in the 'Off-Topic Discussion' board but thought it was 'national' enough and about 'revival' enough to warrant the 'General Discussion' board - for that's what this board is about, the revival of our nation)

For signs it's OK, but it's very hard to read a book in Gaelic script. I understand why it was modernised.
Just as the best is the enemy of the good, sometimes the too-traditional is the enemy of tradition. I've actually pondered this example quite a lot!
