Hello. My name is Maolsheachlann Ó Ceallaigh. I'm thirty-nine years old, five foot eight, thirteen and a half-stone, right-handed, brown-haired, backward-looking, and terrified of roller-coasters.
Although I'm not particularly keen about the project of a federalist Ireland, being an old-fashioned cultural nationalist who thinks the Gaelic revival should never have been abandoned, I AM a strong believer in localism and regionalism. So if a federal Ireland could foster that, or if discussions here relate to that topic, I'm interested in that.

As it happens, my views are the exact opposite: I am more interested in devolution as an end in itself, distinct from any concerns about culture and identity. For instance, such a policy would help restore confidence in government in Ireland, which has been taking quite a hammering in the last 20 years, and it would also decrease the sceptre of parish-pump politics that we see so much of in this country. |

Fair enough. I can sympathise with both those objectives. I'm just more interested in culture myself.
